Frequently Asked Questions

What are Ideal Conditions?

Apollo includes a 10-day hourly weather forecast. Every hour is rated as Perfect, Acceptable or Bad depending on conditions YOU set. Conditions considered include temperature, precipitation chance, wind speed and UV index.

What is Feels Like temperature?

“It's not just the heat, but also the humidity” is a commonly heard phrase during the summer, and it holds some truth. Feels Like temperature refers to the heat index, also known as the apparent temperature, considers both the air temperature and relative humidity to determine how the temperature feels to our bodies. This consideration is crucial when it comes to our comfort.

The heat index demonstrates a direct relationship between the air temperature, relative humidity, and how we perceive the heat. As the air temperature and relative humidity increase, the heat index also increases, intensifying the sensation of heat. Conversely, when the air temperature and relative humidity decrease, the heat index decreases, making us feel less affected by the heat.

It is often surprising for individuals to discover that heat index values are intended for shady areas. However, when exposed to direct sunlight, the heat index value can rise by as much as 15°F. As illustrated in the table below, heat indices reaching or surpassing 103°F can pose a risk of dangerous heat-related conditions when there is prolonged exposure and/or physical activity in hot environments.

What is Wet Bulb Globe Temperature?

The Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) serves as a measure of heat stress specifically in direct sunlight, considering various factors such as temperature, humidity, wind speed, sun angle, and cloud cover (solar radiation). Unlike the heat index, which focuses on temperature and humidity and is calculated for shady areas, the WBGT is particularly relevant for individuals working or exercising in direct sunlight. It is widely utilized by military agencies, OSHA, and many nations as a guide for managing workload in such conditions.
